How Cathy & Bryant overcame their biggest fear to create one of the most authentic cruise channels on YouTube

Sometimes the best travel stories aren’t about the destinations – they’re about the journey to share those destinations with others. Today I’m sitting down with Cathy and Bryant, the couple behind Travel Cake Trips, who just celebrated their first year on YouTube. But their story rarely happened.
The Channel That Almost Wasn’t

“We edited about seven videos and set up the channel… but never hit upload,” Cathy tells me with a laugh. Fear of negative comments kept them from sharing their cruise adventures with the world. Sound familiar?
Their YouTube journey started like many of ours did – binge-watching cruise videos during the 2020 lockdowns. After several family reunion cruises pre-COVID, they kept saying, “We should start a channel.” But saying it and doing it? That’s two very different things.
The turning point came on a 2024 group cruise with LifeWithUsT.V. creators Lynette and Stanley. When Cathy and Bryant mentioned they had everything ready – business cards and all – but were held back by fear, Lynette’s advice was simple: “Block the words you’re worried about, and just do it.”
On August 8th, 2024, Travel Cake Trips was born.
What Makes Travel Cake Trips Special

Their Cruise-First Philosophy
“Our favorite way to travel? Cruising – hands down,” Bryant explains. “Where else can you dine like royalty, catch a Broadway-style show, sing your heart out at karaoke, and take a moonlit stroll on a jogging track – all without ever leaving the ship?”
Their channel focuses on all things cruising and island related: ship tours, onboard activities, private islands, budget-friendly tips, and what they lovingly call “shenanigans at sea.”
But here’s what I love most about their approach – they describe their travel style in just three words: “Blissful Travel Together.”
The “Cake” Connection

Ever wonder about the “cake” in their name? It represents serving up “a slice of paradise” to their viewers. Whether you’re a first-time cruiser, solo adventurer, or seasoned sailor, they’re here to share that sweet travel experience with everyone.
Real Talk: The Money Side of Travel Content
Let’s address the elephant in the room – how do you fund constant travel for YouTube content?
“We have to laugh, or we will cry when it comes to answering this question,” Cathy admits. “Since we started our YouTube channel, we’ve definitely been on more travel adventures than usual.”
Their secret? Treating cruises like layaway.
“You give a deposit and pay monthly until it’s paid off by your due date,” Bryant explains. This approach makes multiple cruises per year actually manageable for real people with real budgets.
Their #1 Money-Saving Tip
Use a travel rewards credit card for everyday essentials like groceries and gas. You’ll earn points without extra spending, and those points add up to free flights or hotel stays. Simple but effective!
Their Biggest Splurge (And Why It Was Worth It)
A cabana in Amber Cove with an outdoor shower, dedicated waiter, and perfect relaxation setup. “Definitely not something we do often… but totally worth the splurge!”
Their Biggest Money Mistake
“Being super excited about COVID being over and cruising starting back up again, we combined 2 years worth of vacation savings and overpaid for a cruise that was not good value for the money.”
The lesson? Even travel experts make expensive mistakes when emotions run high.
Content That Connects
Their Breakout Videos
While they love all their content, “Carnival Cruise Mardi Gras” and “Room Tour of 4500 on Norwegian Gem” really resonated with audiences.
But their Bermuda series holds special meaning – it’s where Travel Cake Trips truly set sail on their YouTube journey.
Their Most Unexpected Discovery
“The Blue Hole in Bermuda when we ventured off the beaten path! Beautiful parrot fish and a small cliff where people were diving into the gorgeous aqua blue water. That location is forever etched in our minds.”
This discovery is actually featured in their channel introduction video – the kind of authentic moment that makes their content special.
What Makes Them Laugh
“Each other – for sure,” they say about what makes them laugh most while cruising. “Somehow, one of us always ends up doing something ridiculous (usually unintentionally), and the other is right there to witness it and say, ‘Did that just happen?’”
Whether it’s getting lost on a ship they’ve walked ten times or turning karaoke into a full-blown concert, they keep each other entertained from sail away to disembarkation.
Big Dreams Still on the Horizon
Their bucket list goals? Fiji, Tahiti, Hawaii, and Alaska. Classic choices that prove even experienced cruisers still have major travel dreams.
